The Meditation Center
Ayampe, Ecuador
The Meditation CENTER
Our brand new surf and meditation center was built with massive amounts of love specifically for the purpose of immersing you in our unique programs for mindfulness, meditation, movement, yoga, breathwork, surf and more.
Beautiful bamboo roofs curve like waves over smooth cool concrete, with every nook and cranny intentionally designed to make you feel at home.
If you’d like to come see the place yourself, check out the Private Stay page for more info.
The LAND in Ecuador
Located on a lush, rainforest-covered hill with sweeping ocean and mountain views, the land we chose for The BELL Center will give you a feeling of intimate connectedness to the natural world.
Using natural and organic farming techniques, we also established a bountiful permaculture project to eventually provide freshly grown fruits and vegetables to all our visitors.
The TOWN of Ayampe
Walk 20 minutes down the hill and into the peaceful town of Ayampe, Ecuador, where you’ll find friendly expats and locals co-existing beautifully with their environment.
Decades of strict local regulations have kept large hotel developers from affecting the pristine beauty of the beaches and surrounding greenery, creating a unique, village-like atmosphere along the coast of Ecuador.
The SURF in Ecuador
One of our main criteria in choosing the location was access to consistent waves, and Ayampe provides exactly that.
A beach break capable of many different moods, beginners and advanced surfers alike will enjoy the variety on offer. Everything from friendly white water for learning to long, stretched out walls for ripping can be found and enjoyed. Definitely one of the best surf spots in Ecuador.

Meet the people making it all happen
After spending a few years working as a software engineer in Silicon Valley, Kolin realized his true passion lay not in engineering computers, but in engineering human minds and bodies via natural methods. This led to starting a corporate mindful meditation program, and flying around the globe to create and teach workshops for hundreds of employees.
Eventually, he decided to leave the office life to travel on his own, in order to study deeper into the roots of the practices he cherished, chase ocean waves on foreign shores, and find his personal flow.
This journey led him to places like Thailand, where he intensively studied pranayama, asana, and meditation under Paul Dallaghan and Centered Yoga, eventually becoming certified as a yoga teacher.
His worldly adventures also included several multi-day silent meditation retreats in Vietnam, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, where he absorbed Buddhist teachings presented from an Eastern perspective.
These experiences came together with his passion for the ocean and surf to develop Kolin’s teaching methods, which seek to combine contemplative practices with physical ones, to help people bridge the perceived gap between mind and body, drop into states of flow, and appreciate the connectedness of the world around them.
Anna has been teaching yoga, meditation, breathwork and other healing techniques all over the world for the last 8 years. Always on a mission to connect with herself and others and to help people to live a healthy and fulfilled life.
She started her studies in yoga and meditation in 2012 at the Sivananda Yoga Institute in Vienna, while still working in the field of marketing and consulting. Since then, she encountered and practiced many different styles of yoga and meditation, leaving Austria in 2016 to travel the world and formally become certified as a yoga and meditation teacher under Zuna Yoga in Bali, Indonesia. Here she also found a new connection to her element, the water, through surfing.
From there, she explored many different cultures, traditions, and teachings around the globe including hatha yoga (yin and yang styles), bhakti yoga, mantra singing, pranayama, astrology, and various forms of meditation, including in-depth practice of mindfulness meditation. All of that accompanied by the most spiritual of her practices, the connecting with the ocean through surf and the riding of waves.
She has been studying, teaching and surfing throughout Europe, North, Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, always seeking to share her own learnings and experiences with her students.
Her teachings are influenced by the wide variety of philosophies and practices she encountered along the way, but also by the different cultures and forms of living she encountered in her travels. And of course, by the lessons of the ocean. Special emphasis is placed on discovering the energies present within and around us. Then, using various practices to (re)connect with ourselves via mind, emotions, breath, and body in order to increase our quality of living and level of happiness.

Guest Teacher & Massage Therapist
Eva’s passion for movement began from a young age in the Austrian country-side when she was training in the art of dance. Soon after, yoga asana became a part of her life, due to the full body opening benefits which complemented her dancing so well.
In 2015, she decided to formalize her interest with a series of yoga teacher trainings culminating in a 500+ hr certification. Shortly after that, she took her skills to the yoga studios of Vienna, teaching classes every day and immersing in the culture of yoga. In the years since, she has designed and hosted a multitude of in-person (and online) workshops, yoga teacher trainings, coachings, and retreats – building up a loyal following of students across Europe.
Her teaching style centers around Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga, but she always stays open-minded and loves to keep her movements playful and creative. For Eva, the core of her teaching philosophy is encouraging individuality. She believes that anyone can use movement to enhance their life, and loves igniting the fire that inspires people to create their own lifelong practices.
Outside of yoga and movement, you can usually find Eva traveling to coastal destinations all over the world. Since the pandemic, the vast majority of her yoga teaching has shifted online, which gives her the freedom to live on the road, enjoying sand and sun wherever she goes.
Kornelius Mateo Gerardo
Chief of Cool
Kornelius seems to have been born for a life at The BELL Center.
Rescued as a kitten from the side of the road during an Ecuador surf expedition, from day 1 he has shown remarkable initiative in the areas of feline meditation, jungle exploration, and human relations.
His sometimes playful and inquisitive nature is balanced by periods of being way too cool for anyone or anything, reminding us that sometimes love needs to be earned.

The Method of Mindfulness
How do we train, to dance in the rain?

We only have one body. And it is infinitely complex.
Exploring the depths of the body and how it can be trained and understood is a core interest of ours at The BELL Center.
Rather than stick to a single approach, our movement trainings incorporate many different practices ranging from slow intentional motions of qi gong and yoga to the intense primal creativity of freeform animal flow (and everything in between).
Mobility, flexibility, strength, and balance are equally important characteristics we strive to cultivate in our customized programs.
But at the highest level, awareness of body and mindful movement is the key to harnessing the full energetic capabilities of your physical form, and is constantly emphasized in our teachings.
We were originally creatures of the seas.
But now, the majority of our lives take place on land.
In our opinion, connecting with humanity’s aquatic roots through surfing waves is one of the most fulfilling ways you can spend your time.
Riding an ocean wave requires an understanding of and surrender to the forces of nature beyond our control. Each new wave promises a brief moment of merging with the energy of the universe.
Preparing your Body, Mind, and Breath to be exposed to the dynamic nature of the ocean is a deep passion of ours at The BELL Center, and many of our trainings are designed to carry over well to being on top of a surfboard.
From the 1st session to the 1000th, surfing provides us with purpose beyond the rat race so commonly happening on land.
"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate” - Carl Jung
Whether we want to admit it or not, most of us don’t understand ourselves.
Our lives have become so full of things we need to do that we rarely take the time to stop and consider who we are and what we’re doing here.
That’s where meditation comes in.
At The BELL Center, we teach simple yet effective practices that aim to help you build a better relationship with your mind. Through meditation, we show you how to understand the patterns guiding all of your behavior, emotions, and mental phenomena.
Our minds control every aspect of our perception of the world. Which is why we consider it absolutely fundamental to spend time training the mind on a regular basis to work for you, rather than against you.
Breathing keeps you alive...
Sounds obvious, doesn’t it?
That’s about as far as many of us get in our understanding of the breath.
But not all breathing is the same. How well your mind and body function on a moment-to-moment basis is highly correlated to the quality of your breathing. Train the breath, and the mind and body follow.
Don’t believe us? Try breathing as heavily as possible for 60 seconds. What just happened to your body and mind? Try inhaling normally and exhaling as slowly as possible on repeat for 60 seconds. What just happened to your body and mind?
Our teachings at The BELL Center include many practical and portable methods to help you directly influence your nervous system in a myriad of beneficial ways.
The Ethos of The BELL Center
Our Guiding Principles
- Awareness
- Flow
- Connection
How can you expect to change or improve anything about your life if you're not aware of exactly how it needs to change?
Like attempting to rearrange a messy closet in the dark, many of us spend our time attempting to rearrange our lives with an incomplete understanding of how our individual minds will respond to the changes.
Training in awareness through meditation and other avenues gives us a way to brighten the beam of our mental flashlight, illuminating the clutter and offering us more choices over how we react internally and externally.
At The BELL Center, most of our offerings are rooted in the development of awareness of mind, body, and breath, because we believe cultivation of awareness is the essential building block beneath all other practices and ways of growing.
See “Why Be Aware” for more information.
You start an activity. You lose track of time. Your actions feel effortless. You finish. You are left with a feeling of immense richness.
This is a state of flow.
Complete and immersive engagement in an activity with the appropriate balance of challenge and skill.
Flow states are often where we reach our highest potential, but they can be tricky to harness on a regular basis. At The BELL Center, we seek to study and experience these temporary flow states on land and in the ocean, in order to appreciate their advantages.
Inspired by Taoist wisdom, we also love to take the concept a step further by exploring a higher level concept which we call “life flow”. By this we mean structuring your mind in a way that minimizes resistance, and in turn allows you to work your way through life like a mountain stream bending effortlessly around obstacles.
Everything in the universe is interconnected and interdependent.
Science and spirituality agree wholeheartedly on this fact, from both a physical and energetic perspective.
But due to the unique way in which our human minds function, we tend to view ourselves as separate entities from the world around us, and often stuff everything we perceive into bounded categories to appeal to our rational understanding.
This way of thinking can be very useful when we need to accomplish tasks. But life is about more than getting things done. Too much separation, disconnection, and categorization can lead to the development of a strong ego vulnerable to attack from the capricious world we inhabit.
At The BELL Center, we use regular mindfulness practices, immersion in the ocean, and transformational experiences to remind ourselves of the myriad of ways in which we are connected. Recognizing and appreciating these connections on a regular basis is a major help in cultivating lasting wellbeing.
See “A Selfless and Interconnected Existence” for more information.
